It was amidst World War II that Jeep launched in the early 1940s, largely due to US army demands. Jeep soon issued the specification for a rugged, reliable 4x4 military vehicle. In addition to military vehicles, it was the civilian Jeep Brand vehicles of the 1940s that cemented the Jeep Brand as the undisputed leader in 4x4 technology of those early days.
Flash forwards to 1987 when Jeep was acquired by Chrysler Group from its previous owner, American Motors Corporation. The Jeep product range now consists solely of sport utility vehicles and off-road vehicles but has also included pickup trucks in the past.
When Jeep started manufacturing right hand drive Jeep in 1992 Clive Sutton were appointed the Chrysler Jeep distributor for Greater London and went on the open 4 locations across London. At the peak this business sold over 1500 Chrysler Jeep vehicles per annum which was 8% of the UK market and the largest selling dealer in Europe until the franchises were sold in 2004. During this time the company created the “Lords Cherokee” and “Lords Grand Voyager” which were bespoke versions with AV systems and many special features. The company sold there to various well-known people including the prime minister at the time Mr Tony Blair.
Today Clive Sutton remains a leading American car dealer and custom car workshop in the UK. We offer a range of new and pre-owned American cars for sale including Jeep.
