The New Bentley Continental GT

It has been a long time coming, but finally the new Bentley Continental GT has been revealed Since it was revealed in the early 2000s, the Continental GT became the benchmark for the luxury GT market. The powerful W12 engine with its all-wheel drive were never seen before. Unlike many brands changing models and devaluing used values , the Continental GT still retains iconic timelessness that still makes it look new, despite more than a decade having passed. It’s German parentage has ensured rock solid reliability and thus retained the desirability of used examples. This could not be said for all pre-VW group era models

The average age of Bentkey owned dropped by over 15 years since the launch of the original model in 2003. That’s one of the key reasons why the Continental GT was so successful.

Now, it is a new era for the Continental GT. The third generation is here and is better than ever. A revised 6-lt W12 engine with 626 HP with 900-nm, a new dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and a lightweight modular platform are some of the new features.

The dual-clutch automatic gearbox is relatively new idea for the large GT market. Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz still prefer to use conventional automatic gearboxes. However, with the new Continental, Bentley has benefitted from its racing DNA and made a dramatic decision to go dual clutch auto on this new car

Bentley also decided to make this Continental a rear-wheel drive until the all-wheel drive system is necessary. Unlike the previous models, the all-wheel drive system will come into play only if it is necessary. This will open a brand new driving experience for drivers.

The interior is better than ever. The multi-gesture touch screen is housed behind a traditional trio-analogue dial facing. For decades, Bentley stuck with analogue dials and it became a part of the brand. Despite the digitalisation of the Continental, Bentley still offers the analogue dials to remind us of it traditional instrumentation.

The new seats of the Continental offer a 20-way adjustment that is the new benchmark for the market. This time the leather seats are crowned by a new stiches design – a diamond in diamond quilt. This new shape is based on 712 stiches and the design process took a very long to achieve this pattern. There are 15 different colours across hides and in terms of the carpet. The exterior colours are limited only by your imagination.

The Continental GT is now faster than before, thanks to the weight reduction and the new gearbox. The Continental GT can reach 62 mph in 3.7-sec and the car has a top speed is 207 mph.

Perhaps most importantly the styling is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. One glance and you know what this car is. But it has a new fluidity in the design which has given some further elegance to the rather squared off original car.

The new Bentley Continental GT will continue to dominate the premium GT sector.
