The New BMW 8-Series Coupe is Coming

A couple of days ago BMW released a preview of the new 8-Series Coupe. For the last few years, there have been rumours about the new BMW 8-Series, which BMW neither denied nor verified. What we witnessed was only a concept vehicle and no more.

At the same time, the BMW 6-Series was ageing and there were no rumours about the next generation. Back in the day the 6-Series had been revealed to compete with the Porsche 911. However, it ended up as an alternative to the Mercedes-Benz S-Coupe (previously the CL-Class). As a result of this contradictory situation, BMW decided to offer a proper competitor to the Mercedes S-Coupe and the 8-Series was back in the game!

Since the 8-Series left the production line, there has been a gap for a large GT car in the BMW range. The 6-Series never managed to offer the same level of luxury and comfort as the 8-Series, and the market gap was never filled. Based on the BMW’s sales figures and the feedback from customers, BMW decided to re-introduce the 8-Series.

When the 8-Series concept vehicle was revealed a couple of years ago, the rumours were that BMW was hesitating to produce the 8-Series because it was a potential competitor to the Rolls-Royce Wraith!

We can clearly see that BMW has analysed the existing market situation for the 6-Series, the 8-Series and the Rolls-Royce Wraith. Consequently, they have changed their decision with regard to the 8-Series.

The BMW 8-Series will be the proper competitor for the Mercedes-Benz S-Coupe. The 8-Series will also be a good alternative for the British GTs such as the Bentley Continental and the Aston Martin. What we can see is that the legend of the 8-Series has never vanished, and BMW’s decision to put the 8-Series into production will bring more excitement to the market.
