Coming soon: new luxury and performance cars for 2016

Clive Sutton looks at the just-launched, must-have performance and luxury cars coming in 2016

Aston_Martin_DB11

2016 looks to be a vintage year for new supercars and hypercars. Aston Martin, Bugatti, Bentley, Rolls-Royce – all are bringing significant new luxury cars to market that I am absolutely sure will be in huge demand. Indeed, we’re already seeing waiting lists extend for some of them…

That so many significant new models have been revealed so early in the year is further proof the supercar and luxury car market is thriving. I’ve been visiting the key shows during the winter months to see what’s in store – here’s my pick of the new cars to watch as they’re launched to market in 2016.

Welcome to the third edition of the Clive Sutton Market Report. This time, we have moved online, something we have done to improve what the Market Report can offer.

An online Market Report is more accessible to more people and, more importantly, can be updated more often. In the fast-paced world of premium automobiles, this is important. It is my intention to bring you the latest trends as they occur, and I’ll be using our new platform to do this.

Our focus remains luxury, high-performance and supercar models. We offer a British view of the world’s most prestigious machines, from our years of experience in the UK market. We blend this with many years in the international markets too, for added extra perspective of the trends that matter.

We analyse prices, looking across the market to draw up our unique Clive Sutton Market Price. We believe this is the most [...]

How do we generate the Clive Sutton Market Price?

Exhaustive market investigations were carried out to compile the Clive Sutton Market Report. Prices were analysed for actual cars on sale, and balanced against official values.

Then, Clive Sutton analysed each one, to give his educated, expert judgment. This is the Clive Sutton Market Price.

Price data

Prices were investigated across the board, to gain a complete understanding of the market position of each car.

Market asking price: All the major print and online car classified listings were analysed, with details of every representative car on sale added to our study. Mileages were recorded too; from this, we calculated an average market asking price and mileage. Remember, these are asking prices, not necessarily transaction prices.

NEWSFLASH

News – July 2012

Aston Martin Vanquish

Aston Martin is reviving the evocative Vanquish name for its latest flagship supercar, due later this year. Both lighter and more powerful than Aston’s current range-topper, thanks to an uprated 6.0-litre V12 with 565bhp and carbon fibre body panels, it’ll feature a touch-tronic paddle shift gearbox and for the first time on an Aston, launch control. Visually different enough to call it a new model (unlike some recent Astons – Virage and DBS come to mind) I hope that the balance of supply and demand is better handled to avoid residual harm to values.

Expect the new Vanquish to be dripping with kit – from B&O audio to a wi-fi hub and an interior swathed in lashings of quilted leather. The price, if you must ask: £190k, [...]

  • Ferrari 458 Spider

Ferrari-458-Spider

The brilliant Ferrari 458 Spider appeals because it is an open-top Ferrari with a folding hard top roof. It provides the best of both worlds which, for many city-dwelling owners, is of significant appeal – at last, they can have an open-top car yet still be confident it will be secure and safe from vandals.

A very strong market for 458 Italias means those lucky enough to have a slot on the waiting list for the 458 Spider find themselves in a very fortunate position indeed. Because there are plenty more people out there who are eager to get into one of these, and will pay for the privilege.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Clive Sutton Market Price from £35,000 (2005 car, 25,000 miles)

aston martin v8 vantage

What is it?

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is the entry level Aston Martin. The firm’s rival to the Porsche 911, it is all about looks and sound. It makes an incredible noise, whether in early 4.3-litre V8 form or the later and more powerful 4.7-litre V8.

I’d argue it’s a modern, more upmarket interpretation of the classic TVR. It is often bought by former owners of TVRs, who have since made their money and been able to trade up.

Who buys it?

Buyers looking at a Porsche 911 or a Mercedes SL 55 AMG (or later SL 63 AMG) tend to look at the Vantage too. By prioritising low running costs and ease of use, Aston Martin has [...]

Aston Martin V12 Vantage

Clive Sutton Market Price from £83,500 (2009 car, 7,000 miles)

Aston martin-v12-Vantage

What is it?

To create the V12 Vantage, Aston installed the race-derived 6.0-litre V12 from the DBS, giving it a full 510bhp for 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds. It is a staggeringly able machine, with the handling to match. Aston has also pumped up the looks just enough for it to look special: the louvres in the bonnet are a giveaway, as is the rear diffuser, and it’s often also finished in vivid colours such as bright orange.

Befitting its high performance status, it also gets standard carbon ceramic disc brakes, which offer tremendous retardation at speed but do take a bit of getting used to, as they are less effective when really cold.

Who buys it?

Buyers seeking the pinnacle of [...]
